Earlier in 2025, the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Prince Edward Island (CLPNPEI) and the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island (CRNMPEI) asked for feedback on the potential creation of a single nursing and midwifery regulator in the province.
Thank you to the many nurses, midwives, healthcare partners, and members of the public who shared their perspectives through this consultation. Your input helped both Colleges better understand the opportunities, concerns, and expectations across the province.
Feedback gathered through the consultation survey, focus groups, and meetings confirmed the importance of protecting the public, ensuring continuity of designations, and improving efficiency and transparency through a single regulator.
After carefully reviewing all feedback, the Councils of both Colleges have decided to proceed with establishing one nursing and midwifery regulator for PEI.
This step is in the public interest, aligns with national regulatory trends, and will result in the creation of a new College that brings all nursing and midwifery designations together under a single organization.
We are starting the work to create this new College under PEI’s Regulated Health Professions Act and are committed to providing updates throughout the process.
Updates will be shared throughout this process on this website as the dedicated information hub.
